Interview with Carme Margarit, student of the Master’s in Graphic Design

Carme Margarit Sendra

We spoke with Carme Margarit, a student of the Master’s in Graphic Design at ESDESIGN and author of the project Minim: Natural cosmetics specialised in skin blemishes. Carme tells us about her experience at the school and her journey as a designer.

Hi Carme! How are you? Tell us briefly about yourself...

My main hobbies have always been reading, cinema, and painting. As a child, if you gave me paper and colours, I would get lost for hours drawing (and I still do, though now I mostly draw digitally). Currently, I am an audiovisual communicator and post-producer, enthusiastic about digital media, photography, advertising, and brand identity.

What do you do for a living at the moment?

I work as a Photography Specialist in the Broadcast Department, within the Communication Department of Bella Aurora Labs. It is a skincare brand where I take photographs, mostly product shots, for the website, social media, e-commerce... Additionally, I also provide support in the video discipline: on shoots, editing with Premiere and After Effects, subtitling, and organising and editing dubbing or voiceovers. I also carry out some freelance projects, such as newborn and pregnancy photography sessions, real estate photography, and design work.

What is your most special project? Why?

I really enjoyed the Editorial Design subject because I have always been a consumer of the printed press, and I loved being able to carry out a small project in that field.

I also really liked the Digital Design subject. I learned a great deal and discovered new software that I had never worked with before. To be honest, it was a discipline that really caught my attention.

Where do you find your design inspiration?

Inspiration can arise from any input we receive throughout the day; you just have to be attentive to what surrounds you. Currently, one of the sources of inspiration we can all draw from is the internet and social media, but it is very important to distinguish between those inputs that inspire and those that "pollute". On the other hand, I have always liked fashion publications where photography is the protagonist. I suppose that, as a photographer, that is what resonates with me most. What I enjoy observing most in photography is colour; analysing what it communicates and thinking about how those colours could be translated into a design.

What comes to mind when we talk about design in Barcelona?

I believe Barcelona itself is a great showcase for design in all its aspects. Not only for its architecture, which is obvious, but also for the number of leading examples we can find in the city, both in terms of schools and design studios.

What do you take away from the lecturers and your classmates?

I believe that the willingness of all the lecturers to answer your questions or help you with whatever you need is a "must" that you don't find in all centres. For instance, you could find an answer to your query on the forum on the same day you posted it. As for my classmates, I am still in contact with them, and we even share job offers or opportunities that might interest others. We were able to create a group where everyone was willing to help and give advice. In a way, even though we didn't share the same physical space, we managed to become a united group.
