Student Portfolio: Madonna dos Santos
Madonna dos Santos is born from the contrast between the religiosity of Portugal and the upbringing that Anaïs Kerbrat, the author of the project and student of the Professional Master’s Degree in Fashion Business and Brand Management, received, in contrast to the eroticism of figures such as Madonna.
As a child of the 2000s, women such as Miley Cyrus, Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears marked the childhood and pre-adolescence of the author of this Master’s Final Project. These are women who found in eroticism a way to distance themselves from their past, using sex as identity. Taking these women as a starting point and as a banner for a generational break educated in a context where sexual topics were still taboo; a generation that is currently experiencing the maturation and acceptance of its identity. This project brings to the table the sexual taboos that are still present in 2022. We have progressed in the acceptance of different sexualities but we continue to hide them.
It is a brand with strong social, feminist and queer activism, which uses humour and graphically portrays themes and scenes that are mostly sexual. By using irony, it seeks to give visibility, as well as to promote individual freedoms. Madonna dos Santos aims to defend, unite and give voice; to serve as a banner for its community.
