Hacer un altar, sobre duelo y amistad
Eugenia Meli, a student on the Master's in Editorial Design and Digital Publications at ESDESIGN, presents her project, Creating an Altar for Grief and Friendship.
This editorial publication explores grief through a shared experience. It emerged during the illness and death of someone close to the author, and from the need to find a way to record everything that happens around a loss and does not always find a place in conventional accounts of death.
Through memories, drawings, photographs, texts and personal notes, the publication creates an intimate archive that is combined with research into different cultural and philosophical ways of understanding death. Both elements come together in the book to approach loss from a more personal perspective, where friendship, humour, living together and care also have a place.
The project transforms this personal archive into a "portable altar", an object designed to gather and keep memories and affections present. In this way, Creating an Altar for Grief and Friendship uses editorial design as a tool to explore other ways of accompanying and navigating grief.
