Study Plan of the Professional Master’s Degree in Editorial Design
The Professional Master’s Degree in Editorial Design and Digital Publishing is composed of 10 modules, a Final Master’s Project, 1 open classroom session, 1 additional programme workshop, and 2 transversal workshops:
You will analyse editorial projects from the ground up: content, objectives, and publishing context across both print and digital media. You will work on defining structures, typography, editorial systems, and visual rhythm as key elements of editorial design. You will develop the criteria to organise information clearly and effectively, understanding how each decision impacts readability, comprehension, and user experience. You will also learn to assess the versatility of the editorial process and its impact on the quality and coherence of a professional publication.

EDITH STONE, FOUNDER AND CREATIVE DIRECTOR AT CLOUT& CO
Editorial designer with a strong international background. A graduate of Parsons School of Design (New York), she has worked as Art Director for Swatch North America and spent seven years at Cases i Associats, leading redesigns and launches of newspapers and magazines in cities such as Buenos Aires, Lisbon, Geneva, and Barcelona. She has collaborated with media outlets including La Vanguardia, Clarín, El Diário de Lisboa, and Vogue, and has been recognised by The Society of News Design and the Type Directors Club of New York. She currently combines her work at Clout & Co., a studio specialised in strategic editorial design, with teaching in undergraduate and master’s programmes in Barcelona.
You will explore the history of typography within editorial design, understanding how it has evolved across magazines, books, and digital publications. You will analyse typographic styles, classifications, and hierarchies, and how their use influences readability, aesthetics, and the reader’s experience. You will learn to select and combine typefaces strategically, integrating form and function to communicate effectively in contemporary editorial projects.

ESTELA IBARZ, GRAPHIC DESIGNER
Specialised in visual identity and typography. She is the founder of Parte Studio and the type design project Bruta Types, and has worked at leading studios such as Mucho, Toormix, and Grande. With a background in Fine Arts, a degree in Design, and a Master’s in Typography, her work is defined by a strong conceptual approach, attention to detail, and a deep sensitivity to visual language and typographic form.
You will master InDesign as the main tool for creating fanzines and editorial publications. You will learn to design layouts, structure, and organise content professionally, optimising typography, imagery, and styles for creative projects. This module will enable you to transform ideas into visually compelling and functional publications, strengthening your ability to communicate clearly and effectively within the editorial field.

QUIQUE LÓPEZ, FOUNDER AND DIRECTOR AT PINO DESIGN
After working in various studios and agencies, he founded Pino in 2016, collaborating with major brands such as Burger King UK, Burger King ROI, Wyndham Hotels, Cauchos Karey, Albert and Ferran Adrià, Equilibrium, and actahotels. He has received a Laus Silver Award in the graphic design category (naming and book design), and has also served as a jury member for these awards in 2014, as well as for the Valencia Crea competition in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
You will deepen your understanding of planning and developing an editorial project, learning to make consistent decisions across all graphic elements: formats, typography, grids, photography, and illustration. You will explore key roles within an editorial team and how to coordinate timelines and responsibilities to ensure efficiency and quality. This approach will enable you to create consistent, engaging, and professional publications, optimising both design and team workflow.

ROSA RODRÍGUEZ, ART DIRECTOR AND CONSULTANT IN BRAND DESIGN AND VISUAL COMMUNICATION
Creative professional specialised in corporate identity, editorial design, and art direction, with a strategic and multidisciplinary approach. She holds a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, as well as a Master’s in Design and Communication. Throughout her career, she has developed projects in branding, corporate communication, creative consultancy, and project management, combining professional practice with teaching. She currently collaborates with institutions and studios such as the Johan Cruyff Institute and Kern Editorial, among others.
You will learn to manage the entire editorial production process, from preparing original files to final printing, considering formats, colour management, inks, and finishes. You will explore graphic reproduction techniques, print-ready file preparation, and how to optimise costs and budgets. In addition, you will develop the skills to coordinate effectively with clients and suppliers, ensuring a professional and efficient workflow across editorial projects of any scale.

GERMÁN CHAMARRO, GRAPHIC DESIGNER, ILLUSTRATOR AND VISUAL ACTIVIST
After several years collaborating with design studios and animation companies, he founded Mancha in 2002, his own graphic design studio focused on innovation, experimentation, and the development of clear, direct, and coherent visual solutions aligned with client objectives.
In 2006, he also founded Colectivo MUUU, a graphic design collective with a critical and cultural focus that promotes learning, dissemination, reflection, and creative exchange. His work is characterised by strong conceptual and emotional engagement, combining visual thinking, commitment, and creativity in every project.
You will focus on art direction applied to illustration and infographics, learning to communicate clearly and effectively within editorial media. You will analyse how to integrate illustrations and graphic resources with content while maintaining visual and narrative consistency. Through hands-on workshops, you will master current trends and gain control over composition, style, and aesthetics, ensuring that every element reinforces the identity and message of the editorial project.

ROMUALDO FAURA, GRAPHIC DESIGNER
He currently runs his own design studio in Murcia (Spain), where he develops illustration, data visualisation, and icon design projects for studios and clients both nationally and internationally, including The New York Times, Google, The Guardian, National Geographic, Marriott, Pfizer, and Samsung, among others. His work has been recognised and awarded in various international design competitions.
Photography is a fundamental pillar in the editorial world, capable of building powerful and engaging visual narratives. In this module, you will learn to apply art direction to your photographic projects, from initial concepts and moodboards to final campaign execution. You will incorporate generative AI tools to streamline image production while maintaining coherence and visual consistency. You will develop control over planning, tone, and aesthetics, combining creativity, innovation, and visual direction in every project.

JAVIER PEREDA, CREATIVE DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF ESIETE
Founder of ESIETE, an integrated consultancy focused on design, strategy, and content. With a strong commitment to excellence in both ideas and execution, his work has been recognised at national festivals such as the Laus Awards and the Letra Awards, as well as internationally at the Art Directors Club Europe and the European Design Awards. He is also the founder and director of the magazine paseodegracia.com.
You will understand how new formats are transforming content consumption, placing the reader at the centre of the experience. You will learn to design editorial products for digital environments, selecting typography, colour, imagery, and structure based on usability, clarity, and visual appeal. The module covers print books vs. eBooks, as well as interactive publications for iPad and Android tablets, teaching you to combine creativity, functionality, and user experience in every digital project.

ÓLIVER MONTIEL, CO-FOUNDER AND DESIGN DIRECTOR AT BOLD STUDIO
With over 20 years of experience in design, he has worked in agencies as both a designer and art director. In 2006, he co-founded BOLD, a branding studio based in Spain, where he is Partner and Design Director. His work has been recognised with awards such as the Laus and Pentawards. He holds a degree in Design from ISEC Lisbon and has furthered his education at institutions such as Central Saint Martins and the Berlin School of Creative Leadership. Since 2013, he has combined his professional practice at BOLD with teaching.
You will master industry-leading editorial tools such as InDesign, working in an integrated way with plugins like ButtonPublish. You will learn to create interactive editorial applications and translate your projects into digital environments, optimising layout, interactivity, and user experience. This module prepares you to develop engaging, functional digital editorial content adapted to different platforms and devices.

He supports small and medium-sized businesses in connecting authentically with their audience and enhancing their perceived value through strategic and tailored design solutions. His work ranges from developing distinctive visual identities to purposeful packaging design and editorial projects that communicate with clarity.

Tras graduarse en Comunicación Visual en la Universidad Bauhaus de Weimar (Alemania), colaboró como editora de imagen para la revista Die Epilog antes de trasladarse a Barcelona y unirse a los estudios de diseño Mucho y Clase. En 2022, cofundó Phantasia, donde trabaja para una amplia gama de clientes en distintos sectores. Phantasia ofrece servicios creativos en todos los ámbitos de la comunicación visual, desde proyectos de marca y producción de contenidos hasta medios impresos y productos digitales.
An Adobe Creative Cloud learning space where you will work with key tools such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom. You will have access to resources and exercises structured across three levels of difficulty (beginner, intermediate and advanced), allowing you to progress at your own pace. In addition, you will receive guidance from an expert instructor who will support you in the practical application of these tools. The program runs for 6 weeks and takes place alongside the introductory workshop and the first course module.

JOANCA CASASÍN, TYPE DESIGNER, SELF-TAUGHT AND FOUNDER OF CASASIN TYPE DESIGN
Specialized in type engineering, custom type design, lettering, logo design and the development of tools for designers. He has created corporate typefaces for international brands and institutions such as Adidas, Vibo, Atrápalo.com, Kipling, STM Montréal, San Francisco Art Institute, Canadian Museum of Human Rights, Sid Lee, Cinematek and TPG Genève. His work combines technical precision with visual sensitivity, developing typographic systems that strengthen the identity and expressiveness of each project.
A journey through publications that, often found in the more hidden corners of newsstands, immerse us in the worlds of trends, fashion, sports, music, art and other cultural expressions in a bold, unconventional and distinctive way. Through this lens, you will explore typography as a key expressive tool—one that challenges established norms and conveys a strong editorial vision.

LAURA MESEGUER, TYPE DESIGNER AND FOUNDER OF LAURA MESEGUER STUDIO, TYPE-Ø-TONES AND TIPO-G
Specialized in custom type design for branding and editorial projects, she creates everything from monograms to full type families, delivering tailored solutions grounded in concept and context. She has worked with clients such as Google, TOUS, Typeform, Het Parool and the Barcelona City Council, and regularly collaborates with design studios worldwide. She is a member of the digital type foundry Type-Ø-Tones, where she publishes and promotes her typefaces. She is also the author of TypoMag. Typography in Magazines and co-author of How to Design Typefaces. From Sketch to Screen. Her work has been recognized with awards from the Type Directors Club, Laus, Communication Arts, ISTD, the Gràffica Award (2018), and a Special Mention at the Barcelona City Awards (2024). She currently combines her professional practice with teaching, lectures and exhibitions focused on typography.

At El País, he oversees the design of supplements such as El País Semanal, Babelia, Ideas and El Viajero. Between 2014 and 2016, he worked at Condé Nast México, where he led the design of magazines including Vogue, GQ, Glamour and AD, as well as the art direction of Vanity Fair. Previously, he was art director of S Moda, head of design at the newspaper Público, and has worked on magazines such as PlayStation, Xtreme-Superjuegos, MAN, Maxim and Quo.
You will learn to strengthen your business mindset and transform a creative idea into a profitable and sustainable venture. Founder and Head Storyteller at Storytelling&Co., specialised in the strategic use of corporate narratives as a communication tool. For more than 10 years, he has worked with companies, organisations, and institutions helping them build authentic and emotional stories that connect with their audiences. He is also part of the Red de Consultores Totales, where he promotes the creation of purpose-driven, human, and collaborative businesses capable of generating value and a sense of belonging.
You will explore the principles of Design Thinking through a new perspective on collaborative design that places the user at the centre and rethinks and adapts traditional design processes. You will acquire the tools needed to develop new methodologies in creative and entrepreneurial processes, using the latest techniques such as Manual Thinking, SCAMPER and lateral thinking.

He studied art and industrial design. He works across design, architecture, communication, cultural management and social activism, and writes specialised articles and books.

TOMOKO SAKAMOTO, CO-FOUNDER OF SPREAD
Architect, editor and designer of architecture and design books at Actar. She has designed and coordinated several exhibitions at the RAS exhibition space/bookshop.
The Master’s Final Project is carried out in small groups to encourage networking and closely simulate a real professional workflow. You will apply all the knowledge acquired throughout the program, working on a complete editorial project from initial concept and structure to design development and final production. The process covers all stages of a real project, allowing you to experience how an editorial proposal evolves from idea to execution.

Qualification
Upon successful completion of the programme and after completing the required administrative procedures, you will receive the ESDESIGN Master’s Degree. In addition, you will have the possibility of obtaining a Lifelong Learning Master’s Degree from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, provided that you meet the academic, documentation, payment and administrative requirements established by the institution.
To obtain this qualification, you must hold a prior university degree (Bachelor’s Degree, Engineering Degree or equivalent). In exceptional cases, if you do not hold such a degree but can demonstrate relevant professional experience in the field and have successfully passed the Master’s assessments, you will be awarded a Certificate from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia (VIU).
