Iberia is a Spanish brand that has managed to stand out in recent years by implementing new strategies that demonstrate its commitment to the environment. Sustainability is already part of its language, which is why it carries out its activity within a framework of respect for and care of the environment. Part of this commitment is seeking the environmental efficiency of its operations by aiming to reduce the waste generated in its flight cabins and the reduction of CO2 emissions.

The creation of sustainable packaging in commercial airlines arises after analysing the increase in commercial flights, the growth of onboard gastronomic offerings, and recognising the concern of organisations about the almost irreparable damage that this industry causes to the environment. Climate change cannot be avoided, nor can the means of transport of millions of people be transformed overnight; however, its consequences can be reduced and curbed by generating proposals that provide solutions and guide airlines towards improving their consumption habits and practices arising from in-flight catering services.

This project creates an app that allows passengers to check in whenever they wish, they can visualise the aircraft and see which seats are available during the check-in process. The passenger will also be able to choose a menu for their flight, selecting their meal according to their dietary, personal, or allergy-related preferences. The variety of packaging options will also be available according to user preference, giving them the opportunity to enjoy a healthy and sustainable alternative to conventional packaging. By adding these new functions to the platform during check-in, time and costs associated with meal selection are saved, material waste is ethically reduced, and users are allowed to feel involved in saving our planet through the brand.
