ESDESIGN takes part in Barcelona Design Week 2026 with a workshop on the use of AI agents in creative processes
ESDESIGN, the Higher School of Design in Barcelona and part of Planeta Formación y Universidades, will once again take part in Barcelona Design Week with a workshop dedicated to the application of artificial intelligence agents in the design industry. The activity will take place on 20 and 21 October from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the school’s premises, at avenida Josep Tarradellas i Joan 171-177, in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, and will be delivered entirely in Spanish.

The activity is part of Barcelona Design Week 2026, which will take place from 14 to 25 October at various venues across Barcelona under the theme PRO-TEST. In its 21st edition, the event focuses on the design process, from the prototyping and testing stages to transforming ideas into proposals capable of responding to real needs. Created in 2006 and organised by the Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation, the initiative is part of World Design Weeks, an international network bringing together more than 40 events related to design and creativity.
From chatbot to AI agent
The AI workshop, structured into two four-hour sessions, offers a practical approach to agentic AI, a technology that enables users to work based on defined objectives and contexts, organise tasks and perform specific actions autonomously within established limits.
During the first session, participants will explore agent architecture and design. They will work on the differences between a conventional chatbot and an autonomous agent, identify creative processes that could be delegated and define aspects such as context, behavioural rules and control boundaries. The second session will focus on the practical application of these concepts. The work will be based on creative cases and processes to design instructions and workflows, test agent behaviour and fine-tune their responses.
The workshop will be delivered by Dr Ricardo Campo, lecturer on the Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Creativity and Design, and an artificial intelligence researcher specialising in strategy. His work focuses on integrating agentic AI into real-world working methodologies while maintaining human judgement and decision-making. The workshop is aimed at designers, creative professionals and final-year students with previous experience using generative AI tools.
Participation in initiatives such as Barcelona Design Week adds to other activities by ESDESIGN related to the evolution of design and its new tools. Workshops, meetings and collaborations help bring students and professionals closer to the challenges and transformations currently facing the sector.
