AI Agents for Design: Inside ESDESIGN’s Workshop
ESDESIGN, the Higher School of Design of Barcelona and part of Planeta Formación y Universidades, held a workshop on artificial intelligence agents applied to design on 20 and 21 October, as part of Barcelona Design Week 2026. The workshop was fully booked and gave participants the opportunity to explore new working methods and learn how to integrate these tools into their own creative processes.

Led by Dr Ricardo Campo, a lecturer on the Master's in Artificial Intelligence Applied to Creativity and Design, the workshop combined an introduction to the fundamentals of agentic AI with practical exercises focused on its use in professional settings.
During the sessions, participants worked on designing and configuring AI agents, from defining objectives and contexts to establishing instructions, behavioural rules and operational limits. They also explored which creative tasks can be delegated to these systems and how to structure workflows tailored to different needs.
The practical exercises provided an opportunity to explore how agents can autonomously execute sequences of tasks within predefined limits. Integrating them into design processes requires determining which functions to delegate and monitoring the results, while maintaining professional judgement when making decisions and evaluating the final work.
The workshop reflects ESDESIGN's interest in exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming design processes and introducing professionals and creatives to tools that are already shaping the sector's evolution.
