Quico Domingo drives the digitalisation of cultural heritage from his studio, Mortensen
Quico Domingo, a lecturer on the Master in Multidevice Web Design: UX/UI at ESDESIGN, Barcelona School of Design — part of Planeta Formación y Universidades — has recently participated in a prominent professional project through his studio, Mortensen, in collaboration with Layers of Reality and the Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The initiative is part of the ‘Els ulls de la història’ (The Eyes of History) programme, a proposal that seeks to renew the way Catalan cultural heritage is disseminated and experienced through digital and immersive resources. Within this framework, Mortensen has developed an interactive audioguide in a web-app format that transforms visits to heritage sites into an accessible and intuitive multimedia experience.
The project premiered this 2025 at the Romanesque Centre of Vall de Boí, coinciding with the 900th anniversary of the consecration of its churches. The new experience combines audiovisual content, interactive maps, and 360º and 3D tours, allowing visitors to discover Romanesque art from a renewed and immersive perspective.
Following its implementation at the Cogul Rock Art Interpretation Centre and the Cartuja de Escaladei, the Vall de Boí now joins this technological proposal that connects history, design, and user experience. Furthermore, the project will continue to expand throughout 2025 with new additions, such as Miravet Castle and the Sant Pere de Rodes monastery.
Quico Domingo’s participation in this project highlights the application of UX/UI design in cultural contexts and reinforces ESDESIGN’s commitment to training that is connected to professional practice and projects with real impact. We celebrate his contribution to an initiative that demonstrates how design and technology can be key tools for preserving, reinterpreting, and disseminating our heritage.
