Our students and Master's Programme Director honoured at the Delta Awards 2026
Yesterday, 22 July 2026, at the gala of the Delta Awards 2026, our students from ESDESIGN, the Escuela Superior de Diseño de Barcelona, part of Planeta Formación y Universidades, Iván Alejandro Hernández Álvarez and Fátima Franco Lugo were awarded the Silver Delta Medal for the project Boundless. And Jordi Blasi, Director of our Master's in Product Design and Digital Modelling, won the Silver Delta Award in the "Complements i eines" category for Sustain Awards, a project developed together with Jordi Pla Sabaté.
Likewise, the project Domus, by Lilian Chowell and José Alberto Téllez, was awarded a bronze medal.
The Delta 2026 selection also included other projects signed by tutors linked to the school.
The Delta Awards, Spain's leading event in industrial design
The Delta Awards, organised by ADI-FAD (Associació de Disseny Industrial del FAD), are among the most prestigious accolades in Spanish industrial design. In this 43rd edition, the awards have reclaimed their historic name (Premios Delta) after several editions under the name Premios ADI, and also mark 50 years of the Delta Medals, the category recognising the best final Degree and Master's projects by young students such as ours.
Year after year, the ceremony becomes a meeting point for designers, companies, schools and professionals in the sector.
The competition is structured around three areas: professional (Delta Awards), academic (Delta Medals) and cultural (Delta Culture). A committee of industrial design experts pre-selects the projects that make up the various award categories; from among all the entries submitted, around 180 products are chosen, from which an international jury ultimately determines the winning entries.
This year, the Delta 2026 selection included other projects signed by tutors linked to the school: Nexus, by Bernat Faura (Plumartis) for Dimasa; Sustain, by Jordi Blasi for Sustain Awards; and, in the Delta Culture category, the exhibition La Mar de Plástico, by Héctor Serrano for the Museo de la Naturaleza y Arqueología de Tenerife.
Boundless: a project aimed at accessible sport
The silver medal-winning project by our students Iván Alejandro Hernández Álvarez and Fátima Franco Lugo, supervised by Jordi Blasi, stems from the observation that people with visual impairments face serious barriers to exercising independently, as most sports equipment relies on visual information for its use, which limits access to physical activity and fosters dependence on others.
Boundless proposes a modular kit of six training products — dumbbells, weight plates, bars, rings and resistance bands — designed with tactile references, a braille system, colour coding and functional textures that guide the use, intensity and grip of each item. The project was developed on the basis of contextual research, ergonomic analysis and universal design principles, integrating accessibility as a structural part of the product and enabling shared, inclusive use in conventional sporting environments.
Sustain Awards: rethinking trophies through sustainability
Jordi Blasi, Director of our Master's in Product Design and Digital Modelling, was recognised in the "Complements i eines" category for Sustain Awards, a project developed together with Jordi Pla Sabaté that proposes a minimalist reinterpretation of trophies and awards, a market traditionally dominated by ornate aesthetics, unsustainable materials and very limited customisation options.
The collection puts forward a contemporary alternative, designed for both manufacturers and distributors, through a modular system that allows for a wide range of adaptations. The project also incorporates a circular vision within the business model itself: the use of recycled or low-environmental-impact materials, combined with clean, essential geometries that facilitate mass production.
The jury, made up of Michel Anastassiades, Elric Petit (Big Game), Rosario Hurtado, Luis Eslava and Pilar Chiva, described the project as a minimalist and brilliant reinterpretation of a conservative market, demonstrating that celebration can be both highly customisable and deeply sustainable.
Exhibition at DHub Barcelona
The projects can be seen from today until 6 September at the exhibition "Delta Awards 2026. Industrial Design and Design Culture", hosted by DHub Barcelona. The exhibition brings together 203 products designed and marketed over the past two years by Spanish designers and companies, both nationally and internationally, and includes the pieces awarded in this 43rd edition of the awards.
Organised by category, the exhibition offers an overview of the current state of Spanish industrial design through objects that add value for people, respect the environment and reflect good professional and industrial practice, thereby forming a genuine map of the sector.
A relationship we have shared with FAD for years
This new recognition reaffirms the close relationship we have maintained for years with ADI-FAD, the industrial design association of FAD (Foment de les Arts i del Disseny), which brings together the community of professionals, students and companies linked to this discipline.
This is not the first time our students' work has found a prominent showcase on FAD's platforms. In 2021, the projects CycleWatch, by our students Valentina Unterhofer and Andrea Espinosa from the Master's in Digital Product Modelling, and Learn&Eat, by our student Estíbaliz Pastor from the Master's in Product Design, were selected as finalists in the ADI Medals category of the ADI-FAD Awards, among more than 100 entries submitted by design schools from across the Iberian Peninsula. Both works were subsequently exhibited at "El mejor diseño del año", organised by FAD in collaboration with the Museu del Disseny de Barcelona at Disseny Hub Barcelona.
With these new awards, we continue to reaffirm our ties with ADI-FAD and our commitment, as a school, to design education focused on innovation, accessibility and sustainability.
