Breeze

Anna Arribas Mancheño, student on the Professional Master’s Degree in Product Design and Digital Modelling at ESDESIGN, presents her project, Breeze.

Breeze proposes a new way of understanding gynaecological examinations through a vaginal speculum designed to prioritise patient comfort, support healthcare professionals in their work, and reduce environmental impact.

The project focuses on improving the gynaecological experience by rethinking the traditional design of the speculum through an innovative inflatable dilation system inspired by manual blood pressure monitors. This mechanism allows for a gradual and controlled opening of the vaginal canal, minimising discomfort and adapting to each patient’s anatomy. Unlike conventional rigid speculums, Breeze incorporates a folded and flexible cuff that expands gently, offering a more respectful and less invasive examination.

The applicator’s design is simple, intuitive and ergonomic, allowing for precise one-handed placement, both by the healthcare professional and by the patient herself. Its clean aesthetic and colour convey calm, hygiene and safety, reinforcing confidence during the procedure. In addition, the device eliminates complex parts and unnecessary assemblies, making it easier to use and optimising clinical processes.

This Master’s Final Project was the winning project in the ESDESIGN Master’s Final Project Awards.
