Study Plan of the Master’s in Illustration
The Lifelong Learning Master’s in Illustration and Animation is made up of 10 modules, a Master’s Final Project, 1 Motion Open Classroom, 1 Adobe Illustrator Open Classroom, 2 additional program workshops, and 2 transversal workshops.
You will refine your skills in graphic expression techniques and creative illustration, essential for visual and animation projects. You will explore materials and resources such as collage, stencil and cut paper to expand your visual language. You will experiment with hands-on processes that enhance creativity and visual storytelling. You will also learn how to translate these techniques into animation projects, integrating texture, composition and a distinctive style. A solid foundation for developing original and identity-driven visual proposals.

HELENA HORMIGA, ILLUSTRATOR AND GRAPHIC DESIGNER
She specializes in conceptual illustration, poetic imagery and absurd humor. She has published with national and international publishers such as SM, Anaya, Edelvives, Alba Editorial, Chronicle Books and Ediciones Castillo, and her work has been translated into multiple languages. Her illustrations have been featured in international exhibitions such as the Nami Concours Catalogue (Korea) and the Bratislava Biennial, and she has received awards including the First Prize Edelvives Picture Book Award and a finalist mention at the Laus Awards. She also collaborates on advertising campaigns for brands such as McDonald's, Filmin, BIC, Nobel and La Casa Encendida, and has illustrated labels for various wineries.
As an author, she combines visual narrative and metaphor with a conceptual and expressive approach, particularly in children's literature.
You will develop a solid foundation in the fundamentals of illustration, working with essential elements such as color, shape, space and composition. You will learn how to build balanced and coherent images based on the principles of visual language. Through a primarily hands-on approach, supported by theoretical content, you will strengthen your understanding of color and composition. This module provides the technical and creative tools needed to confidently approach the rest of the program.

JUANJO G. OLLER, GRAPHIC DESIGNER, ILLUSTRATOR, EDITOR AND FOUNDER OF MILIMBO
He has worked both as a freelancer and in studios such as AlexdeVila, Pepe Gimeno, Nexo Creativo and Buena Suerte Sr. Gorsky, developing graphic, editorial and illustration projects for press, publishers and agencies. Since 2007, he has been the founder and editor of Milimbo, a studio and publishing label specializing in graphic and illustrated books. From there, he coordinates content, leads art direction and oversees the design, production and distribution of each project. At Milimbo, they explore new ways of storytelling through books, games, workshops, visual identities and exhibitions, always at the intersection of design and illustration.
You will acquire the fundamentals of animation, understanding the core principles that govern movement and visual storytelling. You will begin working with essential software used in professional animation. Through practical exercises, you will build a solid technical foundation that will enable you to bring your ideas to life. This module prepares you to confidently tackle the more advanced animation subjects in the program.

YAIZA GÓMEZ, GRAPHIC DESIGNER SPECIALIZED IN MOTION GRAPHICS
She studied Graphic Design and further developed her skills during a year in Porto, where she began experimenting with animation. She later completed a Master’s in Motion Graphics, consolidating her specialization in the field. She believes in continuous learning as an essential part of the creative process. She has worked in agencies as a multidisciplinary designer, developing projects across different areas of design. She currently works as a freelance professional, bringing ideas to life through design and animation.
You will learn how to build visual sequences capable of telling stories and communicating ideas clearly. You will deepen your understanding of composition applied to visual storytelling, as well as methodologies for structuring narratives, concepts or instructions through drawing and animation. You will work across both static and dynamic approaches, integrating image and movement. You will develop key visual storytelling tools to create coherent, engaging and effective pieces.

ALICIA BLASCO, FREELANCE ILLUSTRATOR AND GRAPHIC DESIGNER
During her studies, she completed an Erasmus at Middlesex University (London), where she focused on illustration and motion, combining her two main passions: graphic design and illustration. Her style, which blends geometric and organic forms, has been recognized by the British organization D&AD, which named her in 2021 as one of the “Ones to Watch” in the illustration and animation category. She currently works as a freelance illustrator, specializing in digital projects within the cultural and creative sectors.
You will learn to master frame-by-frame animation, an essential technique for creating movement with control and precision. You will develop visual sequences capable of telling stories and communicating ideas effectively. You will deepen your understanding of composition applied to narrative, as well as methodologies for structuring stories through drawing and animation. You will work on both the static and dynamic aspects of the process. A solid technical and creative foundation to bring projects to life with a distinctive identity.

SERGIO RODRÍGUEZ, ART DIRECTOR, ANIMATOR
He has a solid background in animation and motion graphics. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Salamanca and developed an interest in animation from an early age. His training was enriched through an Erasmus program at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, where he discovered the cut-out technique, which became key to his creative development. He began his professional career at Cartoon Network in the graphics department and later worked on television series in Valencia, as well as in advertising agencies as an art director, consistently combining design, animation and visual storytelling.
In 2015, he received a Gold ADCV Award in the Motion Graphics category. He currently combines his professional work with teaching in the fields of design and animation.
You will explore digital illustration and motion, tracing a path from traditional animation to contemporary digital techniques. You will learn how to bring static images to life through rotoscoping and stop motion, developing both creativity and technical precision. You will acquire the fundamentals of After Effects, the key tool for animating your creations. This module will provide you with the essential resources to successfully tackle subsequent animation modules and digital projects.

IRENE PÉREZ, FREELANCE ILLUSTRATOR AND GRAPHIC DESIGNER
She has developed a visual identity that blends symbolic, esoteric and popular elements. Her work is inspired by stories, rituals and traditional cultures, particularly from Latin America and Asia, integrating iconography, color and texture from a personal and evocative perspective. She has worked in design and advertising studios in areas such as branding and editorial illustration, and has collaborated on international projects such as Sofar Sounds (Spain), Boatrocker Brewers (Australia), Black Pencil Ensemble (Netherlands) and Editorial Comanegra (Spain).
She has been recognized with awards such as the Tombatossals Illustrated Children’s Literature Prize, the Circle Quarterly Magazine Contest and the Best In-House Design Team award (Sweden).
You will apply the fundamentals of illustration and animation to develop basic animations and reinforce core concepts. You will learn how to properly organize the elements and components of your projects, a key step in generating movement in a coherent and effective way. This module will allow you to consolidate your technical and creative skills, preparing you for more complex animations in subsequent modules.

ENRIQUE GUILLAMÓN, MOTION GRAPHER AND ILLUSTRATOR AT GUILLAMÓN STUDIO
He has over 10 years of experience in advertising, illustration and motion graphics. Throughout his career, he has worked as a graphic designer leading creative teams and developing both offline and online campaigns, with projects in branding, packaging, web design, apps and illustration. He currently specializes in illustration and motion graphics, combining technique, creativity and a strong team-oriented approach. He believes in simplicity as the foundation of good creativity: “Anyone can complicate something simple, but making the complex simple… that is creativity.” His recognitions include: Laus Silver Award in Audiovisual, Motion and VFX (2023); Laus Silver Mention in Art Direction in Digital Media with Madrid Feminista (2020); Laus Silver Award in Packaging Line and/or Label with Gatuna (2018).
You will learn how to design and develop characters from their initial concept to their transformation into animated elements. You will work with vector drawing software to create illustrations and manage layers that facilitate export to animation software. In addition, you will acquire the basic concepts to begin animating characters, strengthening your ability to bring them to life through movement. This module will provide you with the essential tools to combine creativity and technique in professional animation projects.

RAFAEL SAN EMETERIO, GRAPHIC DESIGNER AND ILLUSTRATOR AT FYERO STUDIO
He has worked in national and international agencies and collaborated as a freelancer for brands such as Twitter Spain, Vodafone, Seur, Telefónica, Correos, Cruz Roja and Banco Santander. His work has been featured on platforms and media such as The Die Line, Yorokobu, WeTransfer, Packaging of the World, Behance, How Design, Los Logos 8 (Gestalten) and DPI Magazine. He has participated as a speaker at festivals such as Behance Reviews Bilbao, Grafic-Ho Gijón and the Jornadas de Diseño Cumbres (EASDi Corella), and in 2024 he received the Premio del Certamen Tipos for the visual identity of Proyecto IN, in the category of graphic projects with social impact.
You will deepen your knowledge of After Effects by exploring effects, transitions and non-linear editing. You will learn to develop complex projects, from corporate videos to animated short films. You will also acquire the knowledge to export and publish your animations across different formats and channels, such as social media, web or video, adapting to the requirements of each project. This module will allow you to consolidate advanced skills in professional animation and digital production.

JORGE GALLUT, GRAPHIC DESIGNER SPECIALIZED IN MOTION GRAPHICS AND DIRECTOR OF GALLUT ESTUDIO
He began his professional career in 2006 and has since worked in marketing departments, advertising agencies and leading design studios, collaborating on projects awarded with Laus, Anuaria, Agripina and Clap prizes. In 2018, he founded Gallut Estudio, a studio exclusively focused on digital animation, motion graphics and audiovisual solutions for agencies, studios and brands. From there, he leads and coordinates the entire creative process of animated pieces, combining his passion for design and music with a technical and narrative vision that adds visual value to each project.
You will develop the ability to transform complex ideas into clear and effective visual representations. You will learn to synthesize concepts and distill the essence of a narrative or message, highlighting what is truly relevant in an illustration or animation. Abstraction will encourage experimentation and innovation, allowing you to explore forms, colors and movement beyond the literal. This module will enhance your creativity and your ability to communicate complex ideas visually in an impactful way.

ROMUALDO FAURA, GRAPHIC DESIGNER
He currently runs his own design studio in Murcia (Spain), where he primarily develops projects in illustration, data visualization and icon design for studios and clients both in Spain and internationally, including The New York Times, Google, The Guardian, National Geographic, Marriott, Pfizer and Samsung, among others. He has been selected and awarded in various international design competitions.
The Motion Workshop is an open learning space where you will be able to learn, practice and refine your use of After Effects. Over three weeks, you will have access to resources and exercises designed to strengthen your skills in animation and motion graphics. It runs in parallel with the introductory workshop and the first module, allowing you to progress in a practical and continuous way while consolidating your mastery of the software.

ALEX PALAZZI, GRAPHIC DESIGNER SPECIALIZED IN 2D & 3D ANIMATION, MAPPING AND DIGITAL POST-PRODUCTION
After several years working in design and advertising studios and agencies in Barcelona, collaborating on animation, mapping and digital post-production projects, in 2015 he became a freelancer, developing projects for local and international brands such as Adobe, PayPal, Women's Health, PepsiCo, Movistar+, Nespresso and Rossignol, among others.
The Open Adobe Illustrator Lab is a learning space where you can learn, practice and refine your use of the software. Over two weeks, you will have access to resources and exercises designed to improve your skills in digital illustration and vector design. It runs in parallel with the introductory workshop and the first module, allowing you to progress in a practical way and reinforce your knowledge while working on master’s projects.

QUIQUE LÓPEZ, DIRECTOR AND FOUNDER OF PINO DESIGN
After working in several studios and agencies, he founded Pino in 2016, working with major brands such as Burger King UK, Burger King ROI, Wyndham Hotels, Cauchos Karey, Albert and Ferran Adrià, Equilibrium and actahotels. He has received a Laus Silver Award in the graphic design category (naming and book), and has also served as a jury member for these awards in 2014 and for the Valencia Crea competition in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
You will learn techniques and tricks to create short animations lasting just a few seconds, ready to be published in digital environments such as social media, websites or apps. This will allow you to strengthen your animation skills.

ADRIAN MARZAL, GRAPHIC DESIGNER AND ANIMATOR
He studied Graphic Design at the Escuela Superior de Diseño de la Región de Murcia and later completed a Master’s in Motion Graphics Design at IED Madrid. After his studies, he worked in 360º agencies and private companies, until in 2015 he co-founded Estudio Maba, where he worked on branding, packaging, design and strategy projects. He currently works as a motion graphics artist at Gallut Estudio, an animation studio specialized in motion graphics, animation, 3D and corporate videos.
You will design a portfolio or body of work in an original, attractive and professional way. You will discover how to present your projects in line with current trends and market demands. This workshop will help you showcase your talent, strengthen your visual identity and create an effective tool to capture professional opportunities.

MARIO SORRIBAS, BUSINESS STORYTELLING AND PERSUASIVE COMMUNICATION CONSULTANT AND TRAINER
Founder and Head Storyteller at Storytelling&Co., specialised in the strategic use of corporate narratives as a communication tool. For more than 10 years, he has worked with companies, organisations, and institutions helping them build authentic and emotional stories that connect with their audiences. He is also part of the Red de Consultores Totales, where he promotes the creation of purpose-driven, human, and collaborative businesses capable of generating value and a sense of belonging.
You will explore the principles of Design Thinking through a new perspective on collaborative design that places the user at the centre and rethinks and adapts traditional design processes. You will acquire the tools needed to develop new methodologies in creative and entrepreneurial processes, using the latest techniques such as Manual Thinking, SCAMPER and lateral thinking.

He studied art and industrial design. He works across design, architecture, communication, cultural management and social activism, and writes specialised articles and books.

TOMOKO SAKAMOTO, CO-FOUNDER OF SPREAD
Architect, editor and designer of architecture and design books at Actar. She has designed and coordinated several exhibitions at the RAS exhibition space/bookshop.
All students must complete a Master’s Final Project consisting of a personal illustration and animation project based on the content covered throughout the program.

During the Master’s program, you will have the opportunity to become certified as an expert in Adobe Creative Cloud software through the Adobe Certified Professional certification, a recognized credential in the design industry that demonstrates proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud tools and foundational knowledge for careers in digital media.
In the Master’s in Illustration and Animation, we will support your preparation to obtain certifications in visual design with Adobe Photoshop Professional, graphic design and illustration with Adobe Illustrator Professional, and visual effects and motion graphics with Adobe After Effects. Throughout the program, you will benefit from a support plan designed to help you succeed in the exams, including dedicated content for each software, a complementary video library and guided support within the learning environment.

Qualification
Upon successful completion of the programme and after completing the required administrative procedures, you will receive the ESDESIGN Master’s Degree. In addition, you will have the possibility of obtaining a Lifelong Learning Master’s Degree from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, provided that you meet the academic, documentation, payment and administrative requirements established by the institution.
To obtain this qualification, you must hold a prior university degree (Bachelor’s Degree, Engineering Degree or equivalent). In exceptional cases, if you do not hold such a degree but can demonstrate relevant professional experience in the field and have successfully passed the Master’s assessments, you will be awarded a Certificate from the Universidad Internacional de Valencia (VIU).
