Student Portfolio: La Historia del Cobito

Valerie Haddock, student of the Professional Master’s Degree in Illustration and Animation  at ESDESIGN, presents her project, La Historia del Cobito

This illustration and digital animation project shows how to transform personal inspiration into a visual story with impact. Based on the nature and biodiversity of Puerto Rico, the project demonstrates the value of illustration as a tool to communicate, educate and connect with the environment.

The proposal follows a hermit crab on its journey along the coasts of Cabo Rojo, combining a cartoon style with environmental realism to create a coherent and attractive visual narrative. The project is aimed at a children’s audience and conveys a clear message about the importance of caring for the environment, using illustration as the main language.

Throughout the process, digital illustration and simple animation techniques are applied, integrating movement, sound and narrative. An example of the type of creative projects, with message and professional projection, that students develop during the master’s degree and that form part of their professional portfolio in illustration and animation.
