Albert Vinyals reflects on desire and precariousness on the Catalunya Ràdio programme ‘La Solució’
Albert Vinyals, a lecturer on the Lifelong Learning Master's Degree in Design and Art Direction at ESDESIGN, Barcelona School of Design — part of Planeta Formación y Universidades — recently featured on the Catalunya Ràdio programme La Solució, a radio space that blends reflection, wit, and active audience participation.

During his intervention, Vinyals addressed the concept of the "democratisation of desire"—developed by thinkers such as Gilles Lipovetsky—to analyse how consumer society has propagated the idea that everything is within everyone’s reach, from seemingly accessible luxury to nearly unattainable models of success and idealised bodies. Building on this premise, the lecturer focused on the inherent contradiction of learning to desire more and more while the loss of basic rights, such as access to dignified housing or life stability, becomes normalised.
The conversation provided a platform for collective reflection on how design, communication, and visual culture influence the construction of social aspirations and expectations, as well as how we perceive well-being and success in our daily lives.
The programme, hosted by Elisenda Carod, encourages the creation of a listener community that actively participates through calls and messages, reviving the spirit of open radio and shared conversation. In this context, Albert Vinyals’ contribution helped generate a critical yet accessible debate on issues that permeate the everyday lives of many.
Albert Vinyals’ participation in La Solució reinforces ESDESIGN’s commitment to social reflection, critical thinking, and the active presence of its faculty in cultural and media outreach spaces. We celebrate his contribution to a programme that promotes dialogue, proximity, and a critical perspective on the challenges of today’s society
